Some very, very exciting rumours

My apologies for going AWOL again. I blame real life, internet connectivity issues, and other feeble excuses. Sorry.

So, what's new? (I here define 'new' as something I haven't mentioned on the front page before, but which has been on the forum for ages. Yeah, I know.) And WELL.

The Duck Avenger is stirring, people! We're mostly dealing with rumours and loose quotes, but the general idea is this: The PKNA universe may be returning. And NOT just as reprints. Presumably in a different format than we're used to, but STILL!

There's a thread over on the forum discussing it, which can give you a few more details. Give it a read. This covers about all I know as well, but I'm looking forward to hearing more.

In other news: There's a new update over on Banker's website, Bankin' the Duck! This time it's 'Shadows on Venus' that he tears lovingly to shreds. Oh, and there's some adult fanfiction there as well, because this is Banker.

What else? Oh yeah, GERMANS! Check out this thing:

I'm just gonna quote Yoshi:

In the next LTB Premium, issue 4, Germans get a chance to get some more Duck Avenger content. Issues five to eight will be featured in this issue, also there will be all-new German translations of two more Konrad Kiwi episodes and the PKNA Special 1997. More information here:

And THAT should cover it. Apologies again, and MOTHER OF GOD, THERE MIGHT BE NEW STORIES WITH THE DUCK AVENGER!

  1. Wait, so wouldn't this hypothetical series be called, Paperinik New New Adventures... Oh i can see it now. 2032, and We'll have the 17th iteration of this series out. Awesome.

  2. Nah, the new series is gonna be called Pikappa the Rapper.

    God I'm funny.

    1. Oh, I know. I even linked to it in the post. (Though I suppose I could have made it a bit more visible. Maybe plopped a visual in there.)

So yeah, this was just me being my own, hilarious self. Man, I crack me up!

I should start a blog or something.

  4. I have a feeling Lord Birch knows that. Lord Birch should have said "You should translate some Pikappa" instead :(.

    1. Dude is working on his SECOND frickin' motion comic, after having already done full translations of, what, 60+ comics unaided?

You'll have to forgive me if I don't feel like making demands of him at this point. Whatever cool shit comes my way, I'll delight in it, but I figure Banker has long since earned the right to choose his projects at his own discretion.

  5. It's not meant as a demand, but as continued begging ;). Banker once said something of the kind that he may do it if there is a lot of demand (not the same demand as in the first sentence) for it. Of course I appreciate his work and if he decides not to translate Pikappa for good, I'll not bug him anymore with it.

  6. Also... I'm remaking the Fragments of Autumn motion comic.

Because I eventually realized how fucktarted my translation was. I'll correct my mistakes.

    1. Nice. Did you translate those, or did Disney publish those?

      Delete
    2. Well those covers are just shitty.

And what, no extra stories? Some of them are actually important. I am disappoint, Disney.

      This happened to X-Mickey too...

I don't feel bad about downloading these because Disney doesn't want me to tell them to shut up and take my money.

    3. "Did you translate those..."

Nope. They are from Comixology, someone uploaded them on the net.

"I don't feel bad about downloading these because Disney doesn't want me to tell them to shut up and take my money."

      How true!

    4. By the way, interesting as these are, I probably won't be making a post for them on the front page. It's been a nice, long time since Blogspot has forced us to remove any content from the site, so I'd prefer not to give them a new reason.

    5. What's this? Pikappa? Just read the first issue. It was funny, but poorly paced and too lacking in darkness and seriusness. For now, I can't take this seriously, like PKNA and PK2... though it IS pretty entertaining.

      Delete
    6. Oh, but on the plus side, Lyla was fucking badass.

      Delete
    7. ...And I've finished the second issue. Meh. The pacing is still bad, and this one wasn't even nearly as entertaining as the first issue. Coolflamisation is too easily reversed, I don't like One's new personality, and I'm not sure how I feel about Lyla missing her memory.

The new evrons aren't bad, though, and I'm glad they're using Gorthan this much from the start... though he was far more impressive in PKNA, as was everything else.

All in all, I'm losing interest fast. I suppose this is still okay for Disney comics, but compared to PKNA and PK2 this has been pretty weak so far.

  8. Huh.

Did they ever finish the X-Mickey translation? I think the last issue I saw was #20.

  9. Yay, thank you. I still buy everything Disney offers me regarding PK (I'm buying my third, in some instances fourth iterations of the first few comics now thanks to ltb Premium), I don't feel bad for downloading them either. too bad, Disney hasn't translated all of them and also only half of each comic :(.

  10. Having read the first issue I'm very surprised. It's different and it's lacking the serious tone somewhat, but it's definitely a lot of fun, I've laughed a lot while reading this and I actually like Donald's charaterisation in this comic. It doesn't seem to be as great as PKNA 1&2, but still seems to be one of the best Disney comics I know :).

  11. Having now read the second issue too, I'm a bit worried about the amount of fighting. In this series the stories are shorter in page-count, but the pages that are there seem to bee taken up by a lot of fighting scenes. While I still enjoyed the second issue, I hope the stories get a bit more sophisticated than "Duck Avenger fights against some Evronians over 40 pages" :/.

    ReplyDelete

    1. No Evronians in next issue, but... Yeah, you won't get to read that just yet.

But sure, there's gonna be deeper stories eventually.

  12. I do wonder what they did with #4. I mean, the main story there is only 12 pages long, while the secondary story is 48 pages. And they're both important as they each introduce a recurring villain.

    1. I checked comiXology, they have only the big, secondary story...

  13. After reading the first two Superduck issues, I can say: It isn't as good as PKNA, but it's fun in its own way and definitely better than "The Secret Origin of the Duck Avenger" (of course, even Out of the Shadows was better than the SODA).
Some additions I particularly liked: There's a funny explanation for Donald keeping his hat as Superduck (it was weird to keep such an iconic item if he wants to keep his secret identity, but well, the original origin was from the '60s), and there's some effort to show "classic" parts of Donald's life (Jones, anyone?).
Angus and Uno are the most changed characters, but I'd better have a serious Uno than not have Uno at all (though I still prefer sarcastic Uno).

  14. I say one of the bigger problems of the rebooted series is the lack of new recurring characters. Now, while PK2 was missing many of the characters from PKNA, it made up for it with the inclusion of a whole bunch of new guys.

How many new characters does Pikappa introduce exactly? Just one, really. And then there are some other guys you'll easily forget about, and some characters who don't count as characters. Really only one guy.

  15. Hi guys, I tried logging in on my google account but I have issues with the password.

I have a question, are the PKNA/Superduck stories on the app store (Disney's comic app) are the same as the old ones?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yf you ask if they are the same as the original PKNA series, the answer is no. Superduck is the translation of Pikappa, an alternate version of the story.

  16. Just to remind everyone in Germany / Austria / Switzerland: LTB Premium 4 releases today, buy it, and show Ehapa that we want more of PKNA!

    1. Just bought it yesterday. Haven't read all of it, but so far I noticed some pretty strange design choices. Such as that they printed each story from "Missing" separately instead of having the Mary-Ann-Framestory guide you through the shorts.

Also, Camera 9 somehow knows Lyla to be an android. Sure it would fit the character since he's been keeping tabs on virtually everybody, but still I don't think he knew in the original language. Or did he?

      Delete
    2. I noticed some errors, too. I think that Banker's translation is better than the official German version. It's like he actually cared about the stories.

    2. Haven't read any of them yet, but so far the cover art looks awful.

Also, anybody else notice the Blade-Runner-font on the cover of issue #4?

    3. Yeah, I ain't findin' shit

  18. Ah. Right. I'm finally able to find the Superduck comics available on Comixology now.

Well, only 7 issues there. Alright.

  19. Hey, I'm eternally thankful to you sir.

I loved these comics as a kid and I remember several years earlier trying to find scans like these so you can imagine that you putting this site up is like a godsend to me.

    Thank you.
